I think it's time for some clarification.
I have heard too many times now that Brooklyn Park's Citizen Long-range Improvement Committee (CLIC) simply asked our City Council to look at the garbage issue, not actually recommending they do it. I actually heard from someone at their meeting last night that one of the members was attempting to sell this story line.
Here's the fact - CLIC passed the "Recommendation" (their word) and sent to our City Council as it reads in the council agenda of June 6th:
"City Council hold a public hearing and pass a resolution of intent to organize the garbage collection system consistent with the goals outlined in the solid waste collection system study to be a city, proactive and committed to being economically green, improving the cities environment, while promoting a possible lower cost of service with high efficiency, and adding more safety in our neighborhoods and conserving our streets."

It is clear, this citizen group not only wanted our City to look at this, they were fully behind its implementation. From the way last nights meeting went it seems as though they're circling the wagons after having the overwhelming majority of Brooklyn Park residents reject this idea.
I think it's okay when a citizen group makes recommendations, even when controversial. It's okay to take a stand for what they believe. But when the residents show up by the hundreds and say "thanks but no thanks" it's time to accept that and move on, not to call them "crazy" and "uneducated". I've got a real problem with that kind of attitude. And that's the reason we needed today to clarify exactly what they did so everyone knows it was a recommendation to implement, not to just study.
